As the weather turns cooler in Spain, November visitors to the country are likely to look for more cultural activities instead of lying on the beach all day. On this page you'll find the best cities to visit in Spain according to the events going on there in November.

Of course, the classic best cities in Spain are good all year round. Check out my list of Best Spanish Cities.

There aren't really any iconic events in November in Spain: no Tomatina Tomato Fight or Pamplona Running of the Bulls. This month it's mainly about jazz and film festivals, there are a few quirky alternatives if that's not your bag.

1. Barcelona

Barcelona comes a close second to Madrid as the best place to visit in Spain in November. There are three film festivals, a jazz festival and a press photography exhibition.

3. Potes

Potes is a small town that is rarely on the tourist radar, but its Orujo Festival is worth checking out. Orujo is the Spanish version of grappa, a type of brandy made with the solid left over after the grapes are pressed. The orujo festival gives you a chance to sample some of the potent aguardiente (fire-water) and see how it is made.

Potes is also close to the Picos de Europa mountain range.

Granada is always an excellent choice for a visit any time of year. But with the Granada Jazz Festival running throughout November, this month is an especially good time to visit.

5. Puerto de la Cruz

If you're still looking for warm weather, the Canary Islands are your best bet. Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife also hosts the San Andres Festival towards the end of the month, where the "Arrastre de los Cacharros" or "dragging of the pots and pans" takes place. It's a noisy event that is of course accompanied by the usual festive drinking, as the festival also coincides with the opening of the new wines.
