    • 1). Verify that there is power to your Whirlpool dishwasher, if it is not working or stops suddenly, by making sure the power cord is completely connected to a functioning power supply. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse if necessary.

    • 2). Push down firmly on the overfill protection float, which looks like a small dome in the bottom of the dishwasher tub, if there is no water entering the dishwasher. Look at the water valve under the sink and make sure it is fully turned on.

    • 3). Clean out the detergent dispenser with a clean cloth if there is detergent left in the cup even after the wash cycle has finished. Load the dishwasher so that nothing blocks the dispenser and use only fresh detergent that is less than eight months old. Restart the dishwasher if it stopped during the wash cycle.

    • 4). Set a glass container with 2 cups of vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a regular wash cycle with no dishes or detergent if there is a bad odor in the dishwasher. Run a rinse cycle daily if there are dishes in the dishwasher but it is not full enough to run a full wash cycle.

    • 5). Scrape excess food debris from dishes, prior to washing them, if the dishes are not completely clean after washing. Use enough detergent and make sure the spray arms can rotate and spray water freely. Do not overload the dishwasher.

    • 6). Fill the rinse aid dispenser, before each use, if there are spots or a filmy appearance to glasses or dishes after washing them or items are not drying completely. Use a heated dry cycle if items are still wet or allow longer time for items to air-dry if the "Air Dry" option is selected.
