Toshiba Satellite L40 User Guide
- A laptop can either run on battery power or it can be plugged in -- connecting the laptop to a power source while the battery is inserted will also charge the battery. Press and hold the power button to switch on your laptop. The first time you use it, a setup wizard will appear on screen to guide you through the initial setup process.
- One of the key functions of a computer is Internet access. The L40 supports both wired and wireless Internet connections. A wired connection will require an Ethernet cable. Simply connect the cable from the modem to the Ethernet port at the back of the laptop. To use Wi-Fi, ensure the Wi-Fi is enabled, right click the Internet icon in the system tray, click "Connect to a Network," select a connection and enter the password if prompted.
- The settings on a computer system can be adjusted to suit your needs. In order to access the settings for your laptop, you must open the control panel which is located in the start menu. In the Control Panel, you will find options for adjusting settings related to sound, display, Internet, security, language, time etc. You can also manage the programs installed on the system from here.
- Like most computers and laptops, the L40 has multiple USB slots. These can be used for installing external devices or transferring files using a USB stick. The L40 also features two memory slots and an ExpressCard slot -- this allows you to transfer pictures and files from cameras, phones and other devices which use memory cards.
- The disc drive on the L40 supports both CDs and DVDs, allowing you to play music and watch DVDs. Once you insert a disc into the disc drive, a dialogue box will appear on screen providing you with options regarding how to use the disc. If you click "Play CD/DVD," a piece of software will be opened to playback your disc.
