How to Cut Cove Moulding
- 1). Take measurements of all the areas in which you'll be installing your vinyl cove moulding, and write them down on a piece of paper to refer to when making your cuts later.
- 2). Place your moulding face down on a wood piece or cutting board. Measure it lengthwise and mark the cut lines on the back side of the moulding with your pencil. Align the metal measuring square with your pencil mark, and run your utility knife back and forth a few times to score and cut it. Make sure you cut it at an exact angle on each piece to ensure that it fits properly with the next piece for a seamless line when installed.
- 3). When cutting inside corner pieces that will join together, cut in the second piece of the moulding's small bottom lip a little at a time, aligning it as you go along to test and ensure a snug fit before adhering.
- 4). Wrap moulding around outside corners, but before adhering, mark the area where the moulding hits the wall's corner point on the inside of the moulding using your square and pencil. Then firmly turn the area you marked out face to face over the square, and carefully cut the vinyl from the inside to about half the thickness. This will make the bend of the moulding fit tightly with the wall and prevent any gaps that are evidence of a novice installer.
