But when we give our all and we know we have done well, that unexpected hug is not so intrusive and offensive because we somehow subconsciously expected it and therefore we accept it without too much resentment and questioning and start patting the back of the other person a million times a second as to say €ok that's enough... €.

Not all of the time are we able to give physically, and not every situation will call for our physical effort like helping someone pushing their car, help a team of people to carry a heavy larger load, hold the door open for a few seconds longer (and there are some rude people out there that don't even show thanks let alone say it) and the list goes on. But how about our abilities - things we are good at, like design, programming, building, repair, cast and count, submit information to a process we know. Couldn't we extend our skills set and put them to work! There will be times when a minority of people will abuse such giving and this can and will stop us giving so freely so often.

When you are giving you should and must measure the level of strained and stress that could be placed upon you from the outset. Sometimes saying no; sorry can offend people but there is a great need of a balance in what you do when you are giving your all also known as above and beyond. This also applies in the workplace, Yes! You will feel like you are the best in the office; but if you are working to a deadline and time is upon you then No; Sorry is inevitable.

Giving all you've got is also a mood thing, when the mood is not there; there is no reasoning or words to convince you otherwise. That is not a bad thing as when you do have the mindset to act for a good cause, good spirits go all round. People will remember what good you have done for the long term, especially if you help them out of a sticky situation which could have had a significant impact upon their ability and credibility.

There are many key elements and factor that call upon all you've got. It takes a high investment of time, but it should be something you can do without having to experience sleepless nights.
