How to Replace Belts on Vacuum Cleaners
- 1). Turn the vacuum cleaner head over to reveal the undercarriage and rotary brush. Unscrew the screws holding the faceplate with a screwdriver. Remove the faceplate, exposing the rotary brush.
- 2). Remove the rotary brush and the belt. The belt will be around one side of the rotary brush, the far end up inside the vacuum housing around a metal peg. There may be another screw holding the brush in place, or it may just slip out. If the belt is unbroken, you may have to exert some pressure.
- 3). Place the new belt around the brush and reinstall the brush in the machine.
- 4). Slip the belt up over the metal bar inside the machine. This will be the most difficult part of the project as the new belt will be tighter than the old one. You may need to use the screwdriver for leverage to slip the belt into place.
- 5). Replace the faceplate and tighten the screws.
