How to Repair Fuel Line Leaks on Automobiles
- 1). Put on the safety glasses. Turn the ignition on for 10 seconds without starting the vehicle, unless it has a mechanical fuel pump. Turn the ignition off and begin the inspection.
- 2). Look for dripping fuel or wet or damp spots along the fuel line. Place the plastic bucket under fuel drips or leaks. Check the connections along the fuel line and tighten mechanical fittings as needed.
- 3). Check hose clamps on the rubber part of the fuel line. Make sure they are firmly connected. Squeeze rubber portions of fuel lines and check for soft spots and splits. Replace any rubber parts that are damp or split.
- 4). Wipe the fuel line with a clean shop rag and check around all mounts and hangars for leaks. Replace metal lines that are cracked or pinched.
- 5). Turn on the ignition for 10 seconds if all connections have been checked and no leaks are visible. Turn the ignition off and reinspect the entire fuel line for leaks.
