    • 1). Wipe a coat of liquid sander onto the hardwood surface with a clean cloth and allow it to stand for the time recommended by the manufacturer. This will roughen the old finish so the new finish will stick. Allow the liquid sander to dry before applying the new finish.

    • 2). Shake the can of new finish for approximately 10 minutes to mix it. Open the new finish and stir it with a screwdriver to finish mixing.

    • 3). Wipe a coat of stain onto the hardwood surface with a clean cloth. Allow the stain to dry and wipe excess stain from the hardwood surface with another cloth.

    • 4). Apply further coats of stain onto the hardwood surface to create a darker finish. Allow the stain to dry.

    • 5). Brush a thin coat of polyurethane onto the hardwood surface with a clean brush. This will seal the new hardwood finish. Allow the polyurethane to dry.
