How to Choose a Roof Vent

    • 1). Determine your ventilation needs. If you live in a low wind area you may need to choose a fan-powered vent. A passive vent will expel air from your roof when pressure changes occur.

    • 2). Consider purchasing a vent that can be installed along a gable or soffit. These vents reduce the risk of water penetration because they are sheltered from direct contact with rain under normal gravity conditions.

    • 3). Look at the vents. If you are choosing a vent based on appearance make sure you enjoy looking at the vent before purchasing it.

    • 4). Select a vent manufactured with material that is suitable for your weather conditions. Non-galvanized steal vents may rust over time. Galvanized steel vents are better equipped to battle the elements.
