    Installation

    • Allow the car to cool down completely before working on it. Put a clean drain pan underneath the radiator drain plug and take out the drain plug located on the bottom so that the coolant can drain out into the pan. Increase the flow of the coolant by taking off the radiator cap. If coolant is spilled onto the paint, clean it up immediately because it can cause damage to it. Open the hood and take off the radiator cover and the mount brackets. Remove the drain plug located at the rear of the engine. Any coolant that is left in the engine jacket will flow out. Keep the plug for when the block heater is removed.

Secure the block heater into place with the washer using a 24mm socket and torque wrench. Mark the measurements on the harness and plug it in to the block heater over the engine and use a wire tie to secure it. Run the heater harness and the vehicle harness beside each other using three wire ties. Run the two harnesses to the right front headlight on the back, secured by two wire ties. Route it to the upper frame of the bulkhead, let it hang down, and run it through to the front of the grill.

    Location

    • Keep the car relatively close to an electrical outlet or use an extension cord to hook it up. The end of the cord should be threaded to the outside of the grill at the front bumper, extended enough so that the extension cord can reach it when you need to plug it in.

If you can't find the cord, open the hood and look at where the clock heater is located. Follow the electrical cord down to the plug and wire it through the front grill.

    Plug It In

    • Check the weather beforehand to see what the expected temperatures will be like for when you need the vehicle. For example, if you need the vehicle for work the next morning, check the expected temperatures for that time. Plan your expected time of departure and plug in the block heater between two and four hours before you leave.

Instead of having to wake up two hours before leaving you have the option to set the timer. These vary with the models but are generally straight forward.
