How to Replace the Rollers on an Amana Dryer
- 1). Unplug your Maytag Amana dryer's power cord from the electrical outlet. Maneuver the dryer two feet from the back wall so that you can set the top panel back.
- 2). Slide a putty knife between the front and top panel seam four inches from the front corner of the dryer. Press in with the putty knife to release the retaining clip and lift the front of the top panel. Repeat the process on the opposite corner and raise the top panel toward the rear wall. The top panel has two hinges that it will rest on in the service position.
- 3). Find the door switch on the inside front-right corner of the dryer cabinet. Grab the side locking tabs with your fingers and pull the wiring connector away from the door switch.
- 4). Disconnect the top of the front panel from the sides by removing the two securing screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift up on the front panel to disengage the bottom clips and set the front panel out of your way.
- 5). Remove the four hex screws securing the drum bulkhead to the front of the side panels with a socket wrench. The bulkhead is a flat piece of metal that surrounds the front of the dryer drum. Remove the bulkhead from the dryer.
- 1). Place your hands under the drum and locate the idler pulley with your left hand. The idler pulley will be beside the rear of the motor. Push the idler to the left and use your free hand to remove the dryer belt from the motor and idler pulley. Allow the idler pulley to slowly go back to the right.
- 2). Lift the drum and the dryer belt out of the front of the dryer. Locate the two drum rollers on the rear panel of the dryer. Remove the hex bolt that secures each of the rollers to the dryer with a socket wrench. Pull the rollers out along with the inner sleeves.
- 3). Place the inner sleeves into the new drum rollers and secure the rollers to the dryer with the retaining bolts. Place the dryer drum and belt back into the dryer cabinet. Ensure that the back of the drum is resting on the dryer rollers.
- 1). Pull the idler pulley to the left and route the dryer belt over the motor and dryer pulleys. Release the idler pulley slowly to allow the idler pulley to place tension on the dryer belt.
- 2). Position the front bulkhead over the front of the dryer drum and secure the bulkhead with the retaining screws. Rotate the drum by hand to ensure that the belt seats around the drum and that the front of the drum glides smoothly in the bulkhead.
- 3). Position the front panel back over the bottom retaining clips and secure the panel with the retaining screws, Reconnect the door switch wiring harness. Lower the top panel back over the dryer and press down until the retaining clips engage.
- 4). Plug the dryer cord back into the outlet and push the dryer back toward the wall.
