Thermostat Installation Instructions

    • 1). Shut off the power to the furnace at the breaker panel.

    • 2). Remove the cover of the old thermostat. Remove the mounting screws with a cordless drill. Unscrew or un-clip (depending on the style of the thermostat) the wires from the thermostat. Set the old thermostat to the side.

Take the mounting plate of the new thermostat and position it on the wall, using the small level to make sure that the thermostat is perfectly straight. Screw the mounting plate to the wall with the cordless drill.

    • 4). On the back of the programmable thermostat, you will see terminal labeled G, Y, W, RH, BO and RC. Loosen all the wire terminal connections with a small screw driver. Attach the green wire to the G terminal by pushing the green wire into the terminal slot and tightening the terminal screw. Attach the yellow wire to the Y, and the white wire to the W, using the same method of attachment as you used with the green wire to the terminal. Most thermostats come with a jumper wire between the RH and the RC---leave this in and attach the red wire to the RH terminal. Or, if only an R terminal exists, attach the red wire to this terminal. Tighten or loosen the terminal connectors with a small screwdriver.

The BO terminals can either be together or separated as a B terminal and an O terminal. These terminals are for auxiliary equipment such as damper actuators and HVAC-duct smoke detectors, which are uncommon in residential HVAC systems. However, if a blue wire and orange wire exist, the blue wire goes to the B terminal and the orange wire goes to the O terminal. A blue wire with any color strip always goes to the B terminal if B and O are separate terminals.

    • 5). Carefully push the thermostat into the thermostat mounting bracket. Turn on the power and test the functions of the furnace and air conditioning manually. Use the instructions to set your temperature control preferences.
