How To Check Moisture Levels in Outdoor Plants
- 1). Research the water requirements for each type of plant to determine the amount of water needed. If you're unsure, ask a local nursery for help.
- 2). Inspect plants for signs of stress. Look for visual clues like wilting or browning and inspect the undersides of leaves for pests such as aphids and mealybugs.
- 3). Probe the soil with a soil moisture meter. If you choose not to use a soil moisture reader, use your finger to probe the soil and feel if the soil is dry, moist or wet.
- 4). Apply the proper amount of water for each plant.
