When preparing to have a merry little Christmas, you may find yourself stressed out with preparations, and resultantly, shopping for food at the last minute. Here's a tip to help: visit an online supermarket. That way you can order all of the foods in this article and have online food delivery so you can gather your recipes while you shop. While Christmas and Thanksgiving tend to occasion similar delectable treats on the table, there are certain items that you should have, or at least know about if you want to have a Christmas to remember.

1. Appetizers: Hot dogs in a blanket are a fun finger food for your kids, and can be made more gourmet with a fine dipping sauce, such as a honey mustard vinaigrette. Mixed nuts are also a good idea, along with tomato bruschetta and spinach dips for raw veggies. If you really want to impress your guests, spread a light goat cheese inside split endives.

2. Wine: Depending on the meat you are enjoying with dinner, there are many options for wine from which to choose. Try a Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, or any other full bodied red if you are having dark or red meats, or a Chardonnay if you are enjoying turkey or any birds. If you are enjoying a ham that has a sauce or is honey baked, try a Riesling or iced wine. If it is a lighter ham, a Pinot Noir, Beaujolais or other French red wine is a good option.

3. Meat: Ham is traditional for Christmas. Roast turkey and pheasant are also popular. Steak, such as a New York or filet mignon, is also popular. Depending on where you celebrate, you may encounter Dungeness Crab or lobster, as well as duck or quail.

4. Sides: Stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, ginger carrots, and any other vegetable is fair game on a Christmas dinner table.

5. Dessert: This is a big one. Traditionally pies are popular at Christmas time. Pecan, apple, mincemeat, pumpkin, sweet potato and any berry pie are likely to be served. Some pies, like sweet potato, can be served at dinnertime and function as a side. Russian tea cakes and plum pudding are sometimes served as well. Gingerbread, cakes and cookies are popular and fresh marzipan is a treat. For those chocolate lovers, a flourless chocolate cake is a decadent addition not to be missed for any Christmas spread.

When you have a good assortment of foods from each of these five categories, you and your guests will be pleased. To save yourself time, buy your desserts pre-made and have them delivered from an online food delivery service. You can have your appetizers coordinated in a similar manner, or if you prefer, you can buy the ingredients yourself and make them.
