Different Activities in the Arts
- Encourage your learners to express their understanding of any material through storyboards or idea webs. They can draw a scene or a concept with a quote from the material beneath it.
- Tableau is a "live picture" made of people who are posed to depict a significant scene, quote or concept from the material. Partner and group improvisations are also good exercises for fostering quick thinking and improved communication.
- Have your learners tell a story with only their bodies, using no words at all. You or they can choose appropriate music, if you like. You can also use this activity to demonstrate the effectiveness or efficiency of a process.
- Make up chants or silly songs as mnemonic devices. Borrow the tune from a well-known song and make up your own words, a process known as "filking."
- Practically every area within the arts features contests for students at local and even national levels. Drum up enthusiasm within your class by entering select high-scoring projects in these contests, or create your own school-wide contest for your students to enter.
