The Door Is Stuck on My Frigidaire Front-Load Washer
- Push the "Cancel" button on the washer's panel. The door automatically locks itself when a cycle begins. A Frigidaire washer will not allow you to open its door when it is running. This feature helps make sure that you don't accidentally make a mess of water on the floor by opening the washer when it is full of water.
- After you cancel a cycle, wait about two or three minutes for the door lock to release. During this time period, the washer drains the water inside of it to avoid water draining onto you or onto the floor when the door is open. The amount of time it takes to drain the washer depends on how early in the cycle you cancel it. If your washer is mid-cycle, it could take the full two to three minutes; if it is very early in the cycle, it may open in only a few seconds.
- When the water in the washer reaches a temperature of 130 degrees Fahrenheit, the washer door locks -- regardless of the amount of water inside the appliance. When you cancel a cycle that has water that is 150 degrees F or more, the appliance not only drains the water, it also cools down the water.
- Some Frigidaire front-load washers feature steam cycles. These cycles allow the washer to clean your clothing almost as if they were being cleaned at the dry cleaner. Do not attempt to open your Frigidaire front-load washer if it is running the steam cycle or if it is paused during this cycle. The steam cycle also requires some time to cool down before it will automatically release the door lock.
