How to Remove White Mold From Stained Glass
- 1). Apply undiluted ammonia directly to the affected area of the stained glass using a soft scrub pad. With a circular motion, lightly scrub all affected solder lines until bubbles begin to appear.
- 2). Rinse the ammonia from the scrub pad or use another, clean pad rinsed in water, and thoroughly rinse the stained glass piece until you're certain you have removed all the ammonia.
- 3). Dry the piece with a soft cloth or paper towels.
- 4). Turn the stained glass over, and repeat the process on the other side, ending with the paper towel-drying.
- 5). Allow the piece to air dry completely.
- 6). Buff the beading using a soft cloth or paper towel until the cloth shows no traces of black.
- 7). Apply patina, if needed, and let it dry completely. The solder lines should now appear silver in color. If the solder lines look good you may leave them as they are.
- 8). Wipe off the excess with a soft cloth or paper towel when the patina is dry. Allow the stained glass to air dry completely.
- 9). Apply a finishing compound or paste wax designed for the purpose to the piece.
- 10
Allow the wax to dry to a haze, and use a flannel rag to shine the glass. - 11
Use a pointed instrument such as a nail file wrapped in a rag to trace the glass closely to the solder bead, which will remove any built-up wax in corners and along the solder lines. - 12
Turn the stained glass over, and repeat the waxing process. - 1). Dampen a small, soft scrub pad or very fine steel wool pad with water.
- 2). Sprinkle baking soda generously to the affected area, and scrub lightly in a circular motion.
- 3). Follow the rinsing and drying directions listed in section 1, steps 2 and 3 after removing all the corrosion.
- 4). Turn the stained glass over, and repeat the baking soda cleaning process on the other side.
- 5). Allow the piece to air dry completely.
- 6). Use a soft cloth or paper towel to buff the beading until the cloth shows no traces of black.
- 7). Apply another coat of patina if you think the solder lines need it, and let it dry completely.
- 8). Follow the steps for waxing your stained glass piece listed in section 1, steps 9 through 12.
