How to Clean a True Flow Filter
- 1). Remove the True Flow filter from the automobile. Open the hood of the car once the engine has cooled. Locate the casing that holds the air filter---typically located toward the center of an engine, in a plastic square or circular metal casing.
Open the casing. The method will vary depending on the vehicle. Remove any screws with a Philips screwdriver, and loosen nuts with a wrench. Some casings are simply held shut by clips, which you can push inward for removal. If you do not notice any type of mechanism on the casing, slide a butter knife through the slit in the middle of the casing and feel for internal clips, which you can loosen by pressing them downward with the butter knife. Lft up the top of the casing to expose the filter. Lift the filter upward for removal. - 2). Shake the filter or tap it gently above a garbage can to remove all loose debris and large clumps of dirt and dust.
- 3). Spray True Flow cleaner on the inside and outside surface of the filter. Allow the cleaner to work into the filter for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 4). Fill a bucket with warm water. Allow a heavily soiled filter to soak in the hot water for 10 minutes. (You can skip this step if the filter is not excessively dirty.)
- 5). Rinse the filter under warm water until the water running off the filter becomes clear. This step removes dirt, dust and cleaning residue.
- 6). Allow the filter to air dry. Do not place the filter in direct sun, which can break down the material used in the construction of the True Flow filter.
- 7). Spray the dry filter with True Flow filter tackifier. Work the tackifier into the air filter by massaging or rubbing the filter with your hands. Spray the filter a second time, and work it into the filter again. Dab paper towels along the filter to remove any excess tackifier. You can now reinsert the filter into the vehicle.
