How to Bridge a Car Amp
- 1). Consult the literature packaged with your amplifier to make sure your amp is bridgeable. Attempting to bridge an amp that cannot be bridged will result in costly damage to your car audio system.
- 2). Locate the output terminals on the back of your amp. A two-channel amp will have two pairs of outputs. A four-channel amp will have four pairs. They will be labeled as "Positive" or "Negative" and typically will be colored to denote this. Red is the positive terminal; black is the negative.
- 3). Take the first two pairs of red and black speaker outputs and note the first channel's positive terminal as "1" and its negative terminal as "2." For the second pair of outputs, label the positive terminal "3" and the negative terminal "4."
- 4). Connect the red speaker wire coming from your speaker and connect it to the terminal labeled "1" on your amp. Connect the black speaker wire to terminal "4." Connect one end of a piece of short wire to terminal "2" and the other end to terminal "3." The amplifier is now bridged.
- 5). If your amp has four channels, repeat for the second set of terminal pairs on your amp.
- 6). Start your car and make sure your sound system is working and your newly bridged amp is producing a clean sound. If there are any problems, check to make sure all wires are connected to the correct terminals.
