Children"s Pottery Wheel - Clay for Play

Most parents will agree that trying to find different activities for their children can be quite challenging, more so if limited to indoor activities due to cold weather.
There's only so many DVD's they can watch and Computer games they can play on.
In small doses this is fine, but it's generally well documented that too much of these activities are not good for kids.
So if you're fed up, or the kids are fed up with painting and drawing then why not try something new? Working with clay can be great fun and also stimulate their imagination and creativity.
Teaching clay is a great start for youngsters.
Give them some clay and let them play with it.
They will love to squeeze, shape and mould it into all sorts of creations.
As soon as they have got used to modelling the clay and have developed a bit more confidence you can encourage them to build shapes or objects they will be able to decorate or use as part of a game once the clay is dry.
Once your kids have mastered the technique (not that is takes any real mastering - art is subjective), you can always try them with air dry clay.
There are many different varieties out there for you to try.
Decorate or paint and then allow it to dry and finally get a glaze for the finishing touch.
Take some photo's or better still get your children to take the photo's another activity they will love to take part in.
This will give them something to show their friends and relatives.
If your children have a natural aptitude for clay and/or thoroughly enjoys the process you can introduce to them to a pottery wheel for kids.
This is the next step and will be a fantastic experience for your child especially if they have shown a real interest in working with clay.
You may have to show them how to centre the clay and place their thumbs in the middle, applying gentle pressure to manipulate the clay.
Sit with them, especially to start with.
Kids love some attention.
They'll always love some positive praise as some children will find it easier to master than others.
So whatever your child decides to do sculpting, pottery wheel or decorating and glazing just be there to encourage them and enjoy the fun.
The more confidence they get the better their creations will be.
These will be sentimental keepsakes for the future and if you're lucky a new ornament for the home.
