How to Improve ERP Performance
- 1). Conduct ERP performance assessment every couple of months. This is a springboard to making improvements on the ERP system. Part of assessment is to analyze the contributions of ERP to the organization. This performance study requires time and focus. Start by determining the criteria for measuring the performance. These criteria vary according to the objectives and expectations by the organization with regard to the ERP system.
- 2). Customize and adjust the system when necessary after a thorough assessment of ERP in the company. Making modifications on the current system application must be given to people to have a solid background of the existing ERP system. There are several ERP packages that offer customization features, but they vary according to the products and vendors. Properly customizing some functions to fit the specific purposes of the organization makes the entire system more effective.
- 3). Make sure IT facilities used in the company meet international standards. Low-standard facilities that do not meet the standards demanded by ERP software and application will cause several problems. Top-quality equipment leads to easier modification and updates in a frequent manner.
- 4). Address employees' problems in using the ERP system. Make sure they are not having issues with user interface, response time or other functions. Provide sufficient training for new users. Inadequate training leads to not optimizing ERP capabilities. Make users understand their roles, responsibilities and accountability in using this technology. Employees must have the right attitude and mindset when dealing with ERP.
- 5). Upgrade the security systems when necessary. This is to protect the integrity of data integrated into the system. This is also to ensure unauthorized access and manipulation of process will not take place. Carefully design necessary preventive measures on security and privacy failures encountered during ERP operation.
