A Clogged GE Prodigy Washing Machine
- One of the first places to check if the washer is clogged is the hoses, which are usually installed in the rear of the unit. Put some towels down and disconnect the washing machine, then disconnect the hoses. Clean out the inlet screens with a small soft brush or clean cloth and shake the hose to loosen any clogs. Reconnect the hoses firmly and arrange the hoses so they are not trapped, kinked or bent in any way, which also creates clogs.
- If a large item gets caught in the washing machine pump filter, it can create a blockage. Disconnect power to the washing machine and open the front access panel. Remove the large rubber hose that connects the pump to the tub and use pliers to reach and remove any objects. If the object cannot be removed, a professional technician may be needed.
- While detergent may not be an obvious clogging problem to many owners, the two are actually connected. If too much detergent is used, it can create over-sudsing in the washing machine, which in turn creates clogging. Use the recommended amount of detergent in the dispenser and wipe out the dispenser drawer with a damp cloth if powered detergent is used and is clumping.
- The plumbing in your home is all connected, so if there is a problem in one part of the house, there may be a problem with the washing machine as well. Check the drains throughout the home and clear them if problems are found. If a systemic problem is found, contact a plumber.
- The washing machine may require servicing if troubleshooting efforts do not resolve the problem. The pump may be damaged or defective, or problems may exist with the pulley, belt or motor. Contact GE for a service call.
