How to Tie a Canoe to a Car

    • 1). Place the foam blocks onto the gunnels--the sides of the canoe. Two foam blocks go into each side of the canoe.

    • 2). Pick the canoe up--you will need someone to help you--and place the canoe upside down onto the roof of your car, parallel to the car. The foam blocks will allow the canoe to sit stably on the roof of your car and prevent scratching.

    • 3). Hook the single side of the V-straps to the front and rear ends of the boat. One V-strap should be hooked to the hand hold on the canoe's bow; the other should be hooked to the hand hold on the canoe's stern.

    • 4). Hook the other end of the V-straps to the underside of the frame of the car. Pull on the straps to tighten the canoe to the car.

    • 5). Open your car doors and pass the regular canoe strap through the car. Pull one end of the strap over the top of the canoe and feed it through the "buckle" of the other end of the strap. Pull the end of the strap--coming out of the buckle--to tighten the canoe to the car. Close the car doors over the strap.
