    Biotin

    • Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is necessary for hair health and has been shown to reduce hair thinning in men and women. Biotin also promotes stronger hair, preventing split ends and breakage. It increases hair growth and promotes scalp health by protecting scalp and hair follicles from drying out.
      Biotin is found in many everyday foods, including beans, brown rice, walnuts, sunflower seeds and lentils. The recommended daily allowance for people 19 and older is 300 micrograms from foods. If more biotin is needed, supplements can be taken three times a day.

    Beta-carotene

    • Beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A to promote healthy hair, skin and nails. It also contains antioxidants, which help remove harmful free radicals from the body. Beta-carotene also protects nerve fibers throughout the body and promotes bone growth.
      Beta -carotene is found in a variety of yellow, red, orange and green fruits and vegetables. Sweet potatoes, squash, peppers, carrots and apricots are all sources of beta-carotene. You can take supplements at the rate of 10,000 to 15,000 international units daily.

    Vitamin E

    • Vitamin E is important for hair growth. Like other vitamins and minerals, vitamin E increases the amount of oxygen that goes to the scalp, stimulating hair growth. Vitamin E also helps stimulate hair growth by working with the immune system.
      Vitamin E may occurs naturally in nuts and vegetable oils, like peanuts, sunflower seeds, almonds and peanut butter, as well as vegetables such as spinach and broccoli. For males and females over 14, the daily recommended amount of vitamin E is 15 milligrams. Supplements can be started at 400 IUs a day and gradually increased to 800 to 1,000 international units. It is not recommended to exceed 1,000 IUs of vitamin E.
