Camp Sussex offers economically disadvantaged children an opportunity to leave the city during the summer to experience a traditional summer sleep away camp. Located 65 miles south of New York City, Camp Sussex is a 120-acre facility surrounded by a lake. Children can participate in a range of activities including swimming, boating, dramatics, dancing, arts and crafts, tennis, nature study and basketball.

The Salvation Army's Camp Tecumseh, located in Hunterdon County, provides summer camp opportunities on 400-acres of rolling hills. With an emphasis on Christian principles, the camp offers activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, crafts, music, drama, and miniature golf. The camp offers week long summer experience and accommodates 1700 campers each year.

John E Toolan Kiddie Keep Well Camp offers a two week sleep-away camp experience for financially disadvantaged children. The camp accommodates roughly 145 Middlesex County-based children between the ages of 6 and 13 and offers traditional camp activities including sports, nature activities, dance and drama, music and arts and crafts.

Vacamas Programs for Youth uses a sliding fee scale to provide low to moderate income children and at risk children in the New York New Jersey area a summer camp experience. They run three camps for 7- through 16-year olds, including a day camp, a day trip and retreat program and a sleepaway camp.

Trail Blazers in Montague, New Jersey gives economically disadvantaged and at risk kids an opportunity to develop their academic and social skills. The overnight camp offers an array of outdoor activities including backpacking, hiking, wilderness trips, swimming, canoeing, outdoor living, community service, counselor training and nature and environmental studies. The 1- to 3-week sessions accomodate girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 17.
