Wall-Mounted Activities
- Perhaps one of the most well-known wall-mounted games is "pin the tail on the donkey." While you can offer children this traditional game, you can also put a new twist on the old classic for variety with a variation on the wall-mounted game. Draw or blow up and print out images of different items and hang them on the wall, and have children pin different items onto the pictures; "pin the tiara on the princess," "pin the smile on the jack-o'-lantern," "pin the hat on Santa" or "pin the nose on the clown" are all options. Instead of using actual pins, which can damage your walls, use double-sided tape or a putty type of self-adhesive.
- Basketball doesn't only have to be played outside; on a rainy day, kids can still play with a wall-mounted version of the game. Toy stores sell wall-mounted basketball game kits. The nets in these kits can be attached to a wall with screws, or some can be attached with large suction cups. Choose a location that is free of objects, and set up the hoop on the wall. Kids can practice their slam dunks or play one-on-one basketball games.
- A dry-erase board hung on a wall can be used for a variety of activities. Offer children dry-erase markers, and they can create works of art, or they can use the markers to play games such as hang man or tic-tac-toe. Provide children with magnetic letters and numbers, and they can practice their mathematics and literacy skills.
- Darts are another wall-mounted activity that you can offer to children. Instead of using darts that have sharp points, which can be a potential hazard, use a self-sticking or a magnetic dart board. Choose a space that is free of pictures and other wall decorations to hang the dart board. Kids can develop their hand-eye coordination and simply have fun with this wall-mounted game.
