Good Tires Have Proper Tread And Good Grip

People that live in areas where the climate reaches extreme degrees in hot and cold weather need to know that good tires can make all the difference.
Minneapolis, MN is one of those places.
When buying tires in Minneapolis there are three things you should know, in order to be safe on the road.
Tires Need A Good Grip When buying tires in Minneapolis, or anywhere else, be sure it has adequate tread first.
Once it is on your car, you can help control how much grip the tires have.
Try not to over inflate them.
Use a tire gauge to check your pressure often to be sure you have the right amount of air in them.
Extreme temperatures can cause the pressure to change.
Too much air in them will cause the them to roll over the pavement in the center of the tire, more than the outer edges.
This causes the tire to lose some traction.
Traction is created when the tires roll over the pavement causing friction.
So it's important for the entire surface of the rolling tire to meet the pavement.
Good Tread Needs to Be Measured Regularly How much tread is enough? Well, trucks, autos, and other vehicles may vary a little.
One common way to check your tread is to use a penny or quarter to measure.
The coin is held upside down and placed into the tread of a tire.
If the penny shows the head of Abraham Lincoln to be partly covered, then you have more than 2/32" of tread left.
If you use a quarter to measure, then the head of George Washington should be partially covered, meaning you have 4/32" of tread left.
Proper tread helps with traction and the maneuverability of the vehicle.
Rotations Rotations are important because tires usually wear down differently on the front and back of the vehicle.
By rotating them, they will last longer.
You can check with your auto manual to see if it recommends a time to change them.
If it's not listed, then rotate them at least every 10,000 miles.
If you buy your tires in Minneapolis, or another extreme climate location, remember that knowing the condition of your them at all times can help you avoid trouble out on the road.
