How to Find a Medical Assistant Internship Job

104 2
    • 1). Meet with your professor. Ask the instructor who supervises the internship program for a list of clinics, physician offices or other medical facilities that have internship openings for medical assistants. Learn where former students have interned, and find out if any of these locations would be willing to have interns again.

    • 2). Network. Contact family members or friends employed in the medical field to learn if they know of any locations where you could perform a medical assistant internship. Ask physicians, nurses and other medical professionals you meet through social activities, church functions, volunteering, etc. if they have openings in their facilities. You may find a physician is willing to create a special internship opportunity for you in their practice if you have something in common, such as you attend the same church.

    • 3). Contact facilities in your community. Get a list of all the medical entities in your community from your local health department or health-care referral agency. Contact each group or organization to learn what opportunities for medical assistants exist in their agency. Learn which offer internships as well as which employ medical assistants, since the latter is useful when looking for a job after graduation.

    • 4). Submit your resume. To be considered for a medical assistant internship, submit your resume highlighting your experience and interest in the internship position. Attend an interview with at least one representative from the organization, often the person who will serve as your supervisor while you're interning. After securing the internship, complete an internship agreement form that details what tasks and learning should occur during your internship. This should be signed by both the internship supervisor and your professor.
