The Xtreme package was an option for the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. It was not a separate trim of the Colorado. It was a performance upgrade package that could be added to any trim of the Colorado for $2,500, at the buyer's request. It was available on the 2WD 2-door or 4-door trims and was comparable to the Xtreme package Chevy previously offered on its S10 pickup trucks or the X-Runner package Toyota offered on its Tacoma. - Most of the features that came with the 2005 Colorado Xtreme package were cosmetic. The package included bucket seats with optional leather seats, 18-inch aluminum wheels, wheel flares, color-matched bumpers, ground effects on the sides, a white-face gauge cluster and interior badging. However, there were a few features of the Xtreme package that contributed to improved performance, such as its 235/50R18 Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires, its specially-tuned KYB shocks and its performance-oriented ZQ8 suspension, which makes the vehicle 1.6 inches lower than the standard 2WD Colorado.
- The 2005 Chevy Colorado came with either a 2.8-liter Vortec 2800 in-line four-cylinder engine or a 3.5-liter Vortec 3500 in-line five-cylinder engine. The Xtreme package could be applied to trims with either engine, but it was an additional $1,000 to upgrade to the Vortec 3500 engine.
The Vortec 2800 had a 2,770cc displacement. It achieved its optimal 175hp @ 5600rpm and achieved a maximum torque of 185lb-ft @ 2800rpm. The Vortec 3500 had a 3,460cc displacement. It achieved its optimal 220hp @ 5600rpm and achieved a maximum torque of 225lb-ft @ 2800rpm.
Both engines had a bore and stroke of 93mm x 102mm.
The block and cylinder head of both engines was made of foam-cast alumiminum.
A 5-speed manual transmission was standard wither either engine, and 4-speed automatic transmissions was an available option. (References 1, 2 and 3) - The 2005 Chevrolet Colorado came standard with four-wheel anti-lock brakes and a driver's-side airbag. A passenger-side airbag was optional. "Truck Trend" magazine criticized the the brake system of the 2005 Chevy Colorado Xtreme package, saying "the Xtreme wants to be a legitimate performance package, yet offers drum brakes for cost savings." The magazine did note that the Xtreme was not alone in this regard, as that year's Toyota X-Runner package had the same problem.
- Standard features and available options for the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado included air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with cassette deck or CD player, cruise control, a leather steering wheel, a CD changer, a front split-bench seat, a second-row folding seat, a cargo-area cover, a cargo net, a load-bearing exterior rack, a bed liner and a power sunroof.
