• The Lenovo Y410 features the Intel T7100 Core 2 Duo has an operating speed of 1.8 gigahertz (GHz). The Lenovo Y510 IdeaPad features the Intel T5500 Core 2 Duo has an operating speed of 1.83 gigahertz (GHz). Both of these processors are fairly similar, with the Y510 being slightly faster as well as having an increased front side bus. Both laptops feature the Intel 965GM chipset and slot, which lends better to the faster front side bus of the Y510.

• The Lenovo Y410 and 510 both come standard with 1024 megabytes (MB) of fast DDR2 memory, a 120 gigabyte (GB) hard drive, a write-able DVD drive as well as full support for popular memory cards such as SD, MMC, MS and MS Pro. The Y510 also supports the xD memory card format.
  
  

Connectivity

• Laptops are made for connectivity, with their primary role being portability. Connectivity becomes very important when comparing the Y410 and Y510 side by side. Both models come standard with 10/100 ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g, 56k baud modem and Bluetooth. This is where the Y510 stands out by also adding support for wireless infrared, ExpressCard slot, 802.11n and a high resolution webcam.

• The Y410 and Y510 both feature an Intel GMA X3100 graphics card with 256 MB of video ram. The Y410 has a diagonal screen size of 14.1 inches with LCD widescreen technology. This is where the IdeaPad really shines with a wider diagonal screen at 15.4 inches that is full LCD active matrix. The additional screen real-estate of the Y510 allows higher resolutions and a crisper, faster refreshing screen.
  
  

Conclusion

• The Y410 is a direct descendant of the ThinkPad series of notebooks, and as such still features much of the older, clunkier look and feel. This means that the Y410 is slightly heavier, with a battery that runs down quicker than the Y510. The Y510 is approximately $150 dollars more expensive for similar models, but has many more basic features as well as being lighter and made from higher quality materials.
