How to Wire a Sony Amp

    • 1). Connect the amp to the car battery with a 4-gauge power cable. The amp has an input called "power" on the back, which the power cable snaps into. This will power the amp.

    • 2). Install an extra power on/off switch somewhere between the amp and car battery. This is recommended because continuous power to the amp may cause a fire hazard. Cut the power cable with wire cutters in the place where you want to install the on/off switch. Connect one of the cables to the "in" on the switch by snapping the cable into the opening and the other end into the "out" on the switch in the same manner.

    • 3). Run the remote 4-gauge cable or the stereo connectors from the stereo to the power amp, depending on the version of the car stereo you have. The amp has inputs labeled "remote" and "rca in" on the back, so just plug it in accordingly.

    • 4). Connect the red and white cables from the amp to the speakers. The amp has outputs labeled "L out" and "R out" for the left and right speaker. Snap these cables into the outputs and then either connect or solder the other end of the same cables to the inputs on the speakers. Pay attention to the color coding, as changing polarity may ruin the speakers.

    • 5). Run the "Bass outs" on the Sony amp to the bass box, paying attention to the polarity, if you are connecting an additional bass speaker.
