How to Create a Homemade Castle
- 1). Seal all flaps of a cardboard box. Reinforce the seams with masking tape.
- 2). Use a craft knife to cut out doors and windows for your castle, where desired.
- 3). Create a drawbridge by making two vertical cuts on one side of the castle using your craft knife. The base of your drawbridge should be attached to the base of your castle so it can open and close.
- 4). Draw half-inch battlements on 1.5-inch-wide strips of thin cardboard. Cut these out with scissors.
- 5). Wrap strips of battlements around your additional cardboard containers to create turrets with battlements.
- 6). Cut windows into the turrets and fasten them to the top of your main castle structure using masking tape.
- 7). Create towers using toilet paper or paper towel tubes.
- 8). Cut windows into your towers using your craft knife. Affix the towers to the main castle where you want them to be, using tape.
- 9). Add any additional architectural features, such as a staircase, which you can create by gluing or taping cardboard soap boxes together. Be creative; you can use egg cartons, cereal boxes or any other cardboard materials to create balconies or other structures.
- 10
Paint the castle using acrylic paints. Let it dry. - 11
Cut out a circle from your construction paper. The radius should be equal to the diameter of your towers. Cut your circle in half so you have two semicircles. Roll them to form cones and tape them to make the points for your towers. - 12
Make two small holes in the sides of your drawbridge, one in each top corner, and another hole in both of the walls next to your drawbridge, making sure the holes line up. Affix string to the drawbridge by weaving it through the holes. Knot the string securely and use it to raise and lower your drawbridge. - 13
Create the base of your castle using a large, flat piece of sturdy cardboard, large enough to house your castle and a moat. - 14
Paint your cardboard using green acrylic paint where the grass should be, and blue for the moat. Let it dry. - 15
Put the castle on the base so your moat surrounds it.
