How to Find Paint Codes on the 2000 Toyota Corolla

    • 1). Look at the vehicle identification plate, located on the door jamb of the car. The VIN number is on top, followed by tire pressure for the front and rear. Under the tire pressure information there is a bar code. Look to the bottom left of the placard and you will see the prefix C/TR--that stands for color and trim. Three numbers or combination of letters and numbers will follow this prefix. This is the color code. If the car has more than one color, the three numbers are preceded by a 'U' for upper or 'L' for lower. These numbers are also needed.

    • 2). Order paint that is identical in foundation regardless of color. The color can be changed but remember to never apply a different type of paint over the factory paint. For example, never apply lacquer foundation paint over urethane or enamel foundation paint. The paints are not compatible. The ingredients in the paint tend to lift, crack or wrinkle when applied over a different type. It is a mess to say the least.

    • 3). Order the same type of aerosol can paint or touch up also. Be careful--many of these so-called, touch up spray cans at the auto parts stores are lacquers. The manufacturers have not painted cars with lacquer for years. Read the can before you buy it and apply it to your beautiful car.
