How to Re-Install a CD Driver
- 1). Click the Start button, and then click "Control Panel." Double-click "Device Manager" if you are running Windows Vista or 7. If you are running Windows XP, double click "System," click the "Hardware" tab in the window that opens and then click the "Device Manager" button. You are now looking at the Windows Device Manager.
- 2). Click the plus sign next to "DVD/CD-ROM drives" to expand the category. Write down the full name of the CD or DVD drive as it is displayed here. You may need to use it to download updated drivers from the manufacturer.
- 3). Right-click on the CD or DVD drive, and click "Update Driver."
- 4). Select the option to have Windows look for an updated driver automatically. Click "Next" if you are running Windows XP.
- 5). Follow the prompts to install the driver if an updated driver is found for your drive. If this resolves your issue, you do not need to continue with this article. If an update is not available, click "Finish" and continue.
- 6). Right-click on the CD or DVD drive, and click "Uninstall." This will uninstall the driver for the device but will not delete it from your computer. Click "OK."
- 7). Restart your computer. When Windows loads, you will see a message in the corner of the screen explaining that Windows has found new hardware. After a moment, the message will change and say that the hardware is ready to use. The driver for your CD or DVD drive is now reinstalled.
