How to Make a Portfolio to Put on a CD

  • 1). Create a table of contents. This will allow the person interviewing you to know what is contained in the electronic portfolio. Include individual page numbers for everything so that they can quickly find what they are interested in, as every hiring manager looks for something different when reviewing job portfolios.

  • 2). Include a cover page in your portfolio. Include relevant information to the job you are interviewing for and create it as if you were going to print it out and hand it to the hiring manager. Be specific as to why you would be an asset to the company and explain why in detail, referring to your skill set and education. Briefly overview the sample work that is contained in the portfolio.

  • 3). Include a detailed resume. Include your educational background and all relevant jobs you have had in the past. The portfolio is an extended resume, so make sure that the information you include in your resume matches up with the work and samples you have included.

  • 4). Include the most recent samples of your work first to denote progression. Only include work that is relevant to the position you are trying to land and if the work is on paper, carefully scan it so that you can place it onto the CD. For art and creative jobs, this may be necessary, but with Internet jobs, the sample may already be electronic in nature. Scan clearly and make any edits using a graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop or Windows Picture Editor to clean up the scan after it is complete.

  • 5). Create a file folder that contains all of the elements of the portfolio. This will make the burning process easier and will allow the hiring manager to quickly find the pieces of it he needs. Label each file logically. Your resume should be labeled "Resume" and your cover letter "Cover Letter", for example. Burn the file folder onto a blank CD using an CD creator of some kind, and create a stick-on label for the CD that contains your contact information. The more professional the CD portfolio looks, the better it will be received.
