My Kenmore Limited Edition Gas Dryer Is Not Getting Hot

    Igniter

    • One of the first things to check when your Kenmore Limited Edition gas dryer isn't heating properly is whether its igniter is working. Press the dryer’s “Start” button and immediately look at the igniter to determine whether or not it’s glowing red-orange. Refer to your dryer’s manual if you need help finding the igniter. A properly functioning igniter will start to glow soon after the dryer is started, and will usually stay lit for 15 to 20 seconds to allow time for gas to make contact and ignite. If the igniter never glows, it’s probably broken and should be replaced.

    Igniter Bracket

    • Sometimes the bracket that holds the igniter can shift, especially if you transport your dryer to a new location. When this occurs, the igniter can move out of position relative to the gas so that when the gas valve opens, gas flows past the glowing igniter, but doesn’t make direct contact. As a result, the igniter won’t produce a flame needed for the the dryer to get hot. If you start your Kenmore Limited Edition gas dryer and see the igniter glow but turn off without igniting a flame, the bracket has probably moved or is broken. Open the dryer’s main access panel to check the condition of the igniter bracket. If the bracket is loose or damaged, either tighten its screws or replace it.

    Gas Line

    • Ensure the gas line to your Kenmore Limited Edition dryer is secure. If the line isn’t installed correctly or is twisted, it can prevent gas from entering the dryer and igniting with the flame required to generate heat. Contact Kenmore to have a dryer technician verify that the gas line is hooked up correctly and that the valve inside the dryer opens when you start it. It’s possible that the valve is sticking. Have the technician repair any problem he finds to reinstate the dryer’s normal heating function.

    Thermal Cutoff

    • A Kenmore Limited Edition gas dryer has a heat-sensitive thermal cutoff or fuse that blows if the dryer’s temperature becomes unsafe. Once the cutoff is activated, it instantly shuts off the dryer’s heater. The only way to restore the dryer’s heat after the cutoff is initiated is to replace the bad part. Until a new cutoff is installed, your dryer might retain some, but usually not all, of its functions. For example, its timer might advance and the drum could spin even though the dryer won’t supply heat. Contact Kenmore to have your dryer serviced. A technician can determine why the cutoff activated and remedy that problem as well as replace the blown cutoff so the problem doesn’t recur.
