How do I Tell What Kind of Memory Is in My Computer?
- 1). Turn the computer tower so that the rear faces in your direction, and remove all the cables you see here.
- 2). Remove the screws that appear on the right edge of the computer.
- 3). Pull back on the right side of the computer until it slides behind the body. Lift it off and look to the right side of the large fan sitting on the main board of the computer. Two to four memory slots sit in this location.
- 4). Pull the clips apart that hold one memory module into the slot and pull the module out. Turn the module so that the small notch below it faces more to the right.
- 5). Measure the module from its left edge to the notch below it. DDR memory has a distance of 7.3 centimeters from the left side to the notch. DDR2's distance is 7.1 centimeters, and DDR3 measures 7.9 centimeters.
