Sesamo Restaurant Barcelona
Sesamo is one of Barcelona's finest vegetarian restaurants. It's often said that vegetarian options are thin on the ground in Barcelona, never mind El Raval. Located on Carrer Sant Antonio Abat in El Raval, close to the Sant Antoni market, Sesamo is an exception to the rule, serving only the freshest organic produce with an exciting creative zest.
Sesamo has a dual personality. As you enter there's a funky, laidback bar serving cocktails and tapas such as papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes from the Canary Isles, with a red pepper sauce).
And out back is a modern dining room serving creative vegetarian treats, including exquisitely fresh pasta dishes.
In the evening Sesamo's chef and owner Alfredo Marcos offers an imaginative, ever-changing menu. You could try truffle tortellini with thyme butter and pine kernels, artichoke and beer risotto or turlu-turlu, oven-baked vegetables served with polenta triangles in a tomato and chick pea sauce. All of which are accompanied by a savvy wine list.
During the day there's a reasonably priced menu del dia (three-course meal). There are zingy salad starters, mains such as stuffed aubergine or pasta with mint pesto and delicious panna cotta or tiramisu for dessert.
For vegetarians with a passion for the unique and market-fresh, Sesamo won't disappoint.
