How to Grease a 1990 Mustang Front End
- 1). Remove the old tube of grease from your grease gun if one exists.
- 2). Clip off the end of the grease tube with a pair of scissors. Slide the new tube of grease into the grease gun with the front end of the grease tube facing forward through the front nozzle of the gun. Secure it from behind with the spring loader. Pump the gun once to make sure the grease is flowing through it smoothly.
- 3). Engage the emergency brake and loosen the lug nuts on your front wheels. Jack up the front end of your Mustang and place jack stands under the frame.
- 4). Remove the lug nuts from both front wheels and pull off the wheels.
- 5). Grease the ball joint on each side of your Mustang's front end. The ball joints are located on the inside of the wheel. Do this by inserting the end of your grease gun over the ball joint fitting and squeezing the grease gun several times or until you see grease ooze from the body of the bearing.
- 6). Slide under your vehicle with the grease gun and examine the linkage, or metal rods that run from your front tires. There will be grease fittings on each of these; grease them the same way you greased the ball joint.
- 7). Locate the top and bottom of each front shock and squeeze grease into the fittings.
- 8). Locate the wheel bearing caps on the end of each wheel where the wheel lugs attach.
- 9). Work both wheel bearing caps off the end with a pair of channel locks. You can use a flat-head screwdriver to help pry them off.
- 10
Pack the inside of each wheel bearing cap full of grease and put the caps back on. - 11
Replace your tires and lugs. - 12
Jack your Mustang up slightly, remove the jack stands and lower your Mustang.
