How to Remove a Metal Guitar Saddle

    Fender-Style Saddles

    • 1). Remove your guitar's strings.

    • 2). Lay your guitar on a flat surface.

    • 3). Remove the height-adjustment screws on the face of the saddles with a small Allen wrench. Store these screws in a safe place.

    • 4). Remove the screws attached to the bottom of the saddles. These screws are the only things holding the saddles in place. Do not lose the springs that are wrapped around each saddle piece. Store each of these pieces with the height-adjustment screws.

    • 5). Lift the saddle piece off of the body of the guitar.

    Gibson-Style Saddles

    • 1). Unstring your guitar.

    • 2). Lay your guitar on a flat surface.

    • 3). Remove the entire bridge unit from the face of the guitar. In some cases, you can simply turn the two height-adjustment screws on each side of the bridge until it comes loose. Some bridges require you to use an Allen wrench to release a lock holding the height-adjustment screws to the bridge itself. Others have traditional screws attached to the top of the height-adjustment screws.

    • 4). Examine the back end of the bridge piece. Look specifically for the presence of a small clip holding the screw in place. If your bridge has one of these clips (not all Gibson-style brides do), you will need to pry it out with a very small screwdriver.

    • 5). Remove the screws attached to the saddle pieces. As with Fender-style bridges, these screws are the only things holding the saddles in place. They can then be pulled out of the bridge piece with pliers.
