How to Write a Note on Secondary Storage Devices

    • 1). Plug in or insert the secondary storage device into your computer. This process depends on the storage device, but many have a USB connection that slides into a USB port on your computer.

    • 2). Click the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your desktop. Type "Notepad" into the field above the button then press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Click on the "Notepad" link that appears.

    • 3). Type your note for the secondary storage device in the new Notepad file that appears.

    • 4). Click on "File" then "Save" in the "Options" menu. Name the file "README" in all caps. This will prompt the user of the storage device to read the file. Navigate to your secondary storage device. Highlight it and click on the "Save" button. The "README" text file will be saved to the storage device.
