How to Remove the Oil Pan From a 1979 Camaro
- 1). Drive the front wheels of the Camaro onto the ramps. Set the parking brake, shut the car off and then place the wheel chocks directly behind the rear wheels to prevent the Camaro from rolling.
- 2). Slide underneath with the drain pan, box wrench and socket set. Place the drain pan under the oil drain plug, located in the oil pan, and remove the oil drain plug with the box wrench. Allow the oil to drain before proceeding.
- 3). Remove the oil pan bolts with the socket set. Place the bolts together somewhere they won't get misplaced.
- 4). Pull the oil pan off the bottom of the engine by hand. If the pan won't come down easily, insert the screwdriver tip between the pan and the engine block in several places until the pan comes free of the engine. Use care not to damage either sealing surface with the screwdriver.
- 5). Scrape any remaining gasket material off the engine sealing surface and the oil pan.
