Close the ratcheting mechanism so both handles are closed and touching each other. Hold the handle in your left hand (for orientation purposes.) The split bar that connects the ratcheting gear should face to the right.

Thread the nylon rope through the split bar from right to left. Thread approximately 1-inch of rope through the split bar.

Rotate the 1-inch length of rope around the split bar counterclockwise and tuck the tip of the rope into the split on the split bar.

Hold the tip of the rope into the split bar as you open and close the ratcheting mechanism to rotate the rope around the bar. Do this 5 to 10 times to secure enough rope around the split bar to keep the tip of the rope from slipping out.
