How to Starch Victorian Crochet Ruffles
- 1). Dissolve a half cup of starch in about a cup of water. Meanwhile, boil a half cup of water in a saucepan on the stove. Add the cold starch mixture to the hot water and stir until thoroughly dissolved and thickened. Allow to cool.
- 2). Dip the Victorian crochet ruffles into the cooled starch mixture. Dip only the areas you would like to shape on the crochet project. Ring out the crochet ruffles so that the project is thoroughly wet but does not have visible globs of the starch mixture.
- 3). Place the crochet project on a flat, clean surface. Shape the Victorian ruffles into an even pattern which shows off the ruffle shape.
- 4). Use pins to pin the Victorian crochet ruffles into place so that they retain their shape. Pinch up areas that you would like raised and pin together. Use your thumb and index finger to make depressions or to stretch a ruffle slightly. Be sure to make smooth, even shapes. Allow the ruffles to dry completely.
