How to Copy a Friend's Video Movie
- 1). Open a DVD-copying software compatible with your operating system. Although most of these programs have versions for both Windows and Mac, some are exclusive programs meant for specific operating systems and versions of such operating systems. If you don't have any DVD-copying or DVD-burning program in your computer, you can simply download and install a freeware program or purchase, download and install any available program for your computer.
- 2). Insert your friend's source DVD in your computer's optical drive and wait for the computer to read its contents.
- 3). Choose the type of video format you want to use for the copy process. You can make an exact DVD copy using a blank disk, rip the copy as a video file in your computer or make a virtual drive that only requires the same disc space as the original disc, but there is no need to burn another physical copy using a blank disc.
- 4). Start the copying or ripping process. For an exact DVD copy, click the "Copy," "DVD Copy" or "Disc Copy" tab or button in your DVD-burning software. The tab or button name depends on the specific program used. If you're using a DVD-copying software, you may go directly to the configuration window, since DVD-copying programs don't have have tabs referring to other DVD-burning options such as "DVD Video," "DVD Audio" "DVD Data" or "DVD Copy."
When choosing to rip the DVD contents as a video file, simply choose the "Rip" option in your software.
For a virtual copy, which is also referred to as the ISO image of the original disc, use the DVD-burning, DVD-conversion or DVD-ripping program's button referring to the ISO image creation. - 5). Configure the settings for the copy process. For an exact DVD copy, indicate the number of discs you want to burn and the writing speed you want to use for the process.
For a ripped copy, indicate the type of video file format you want to create and the destination drive and the file name you want to use for the output file.
For an ISO image, indicate where you want to save the output file and make a file name for the said virtual drive, in case you want to change the original name coming from your friend's original disc. - 6). Confirm the copying or ripping process by clicking the "Save," "Burn," "OK," "Confirm" or "Start" button. The exact button name depends on the program used. The process usually takes a few minutes, and this largely depends on the total file size of the original disc's contents.
