How does he score better than you every time even after you studying for 12 hours every day? This is one of the most common questions faced by children after the results of an examination. The amount of time invested in studying is never directly proportional to the marks scored. Scoring marks is determined by various attributes related to learning.

Learning comprises of studying, understanding, information storage, retrieving and finally re-producing the stored information. The effectiveness in adhering to these attributes can largely determine the marks scored in an examination. Each attribute is influenced by the quality of information available, the method in which the information is presented and the efficiency of information methods to register the information in the mind. At this juncture rests the critical differentiation between regular and smarter children.

As competition increases, education gets tougher. Children who prepare for such tougher education using conventional methods of learning fall short due to inadequate preparation. On the other hand, smarter children employ advanced learning methods to get a considerable edge over the majority and achieve success. Advanced learning methods and techniques do not stress on the amount of time invested in studying but emphasize on the quality of studying itself.

The quality of studying is enhanced by various innovative methods. Complex problems, such as those found in the CBSE curriculum, are presented with simple and easy to remember techniques. Solved examples from previous question papers help to understand the nature of problems and gives a greater understanding on various methods of solving a problem. Question banks of CBSE question papers provide a vast database for practice. Visual diagrams and illustrations help to visualize a particular topic and helps in better retrieval over time.

Smart children use the modern techniques of learning to save time and learn better. Understanding a particular topic helps them to avoid by-heart method of studying and helps them to rephrase the information learnt before exams. It also reduces the stress on mind and body by spending long hours studying in the conventional methods. Human mind needs enough time to process and store information. By subjecting the mind to vast amounts of information in less time, additional stress is applied and any extra information is lost in the process.

Children should determine their style of learning some are visual learners while some are auditory learners. They should find tools which support their form of learning to learn effectively and score better. Children should improvise their learning techniques instead of using age old traditional methods. With the changing educational system, increased competition and tremendous pressure to outperform, it makes sense to resort to smarter learning to achieve greater success in examinations.
