    • 1). Park the 2002 Chevy Envoy on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.

    • 2). Loosen the lug nuts from both front wheels about one-quarter of a turn with a lug wrench.

    • 3). Jack the front of the Envoy up and place the jack stands underneath the designated front jacking points. Slowly lower the Envoy onto the top of the stands and leave the jack in place as an extra safety precaution.

    • 4). Finish unscrewing the lug nuts from both front wheels and pull the wheels off the wheel hubs. Place the wheels flat down near each side of the Envoy.

    • 5). Move to the front, driver-side wheel hub and locate the two upper and lower mounting bolts on the back of the brake caliper. Loosen and remove the bolts with a ratchet and a socket.

    • 6). Insert the tip of the pry bar into the opening on the side of the brake caliper. Pry the outer brake pad against the brake rotor until the caliper becomes loose enough to remove from the rotor. Remove the pry bar.

    • 7). Pull the brake caliper off the side of the rotor and hang it to the front coil spring with a bungee cord.

    • 8). Remove the inner brake pad and insert the C-clamp into the caliper so that the adjustment bolt is facing the outer brake pad. Slowly turn the C-clamp clockwise against the outer brake pad until it has compressed the caliper cylinder fully inside of the caliper housing. Unscrew and remove the C-clamp from the caliper. Remove the outer brake pad from the caliper.

    • 9). Inspect the inner and outer facing of the brake rotor. If there is minimal grooving, have the rotor machine-turned by a machine shop. If the grooving is excessive, replace the rotor with a new brake rotor.

Insert the new brake pads into the brake caliper in the same orientation as the old pads. Remove the bungee cord from the brake caliper and slide the caliper back over the side of the rotor. Screw the caliper mounting bolts back into the rear of the caliper and tighten with the ratchet and socket.

Move to the other three wheels and repeat the preceding steps to replace the brake pads on each wheel hub. When all of the pads have been replaced, position the wheels back onto the wheel hubs and screw the lug nuts on until the wheels begin to turn.

Jack the front of the Envoy back up and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Crank the engine and pump the brake pedal in and out four or five times to set the new brake pads to the brake rotors. Turn the engine off and test-drive the Envoy in a safe location to make sure that the brakes are working properly.
