Southern Indiana Child Care Laws
- Title 12 of the Indiana Code, Human Services, article 17.2 governs day care regulations. Chapters 1 through 6 concern everything from the applicability of the regulations to child care ministries. The laws cover the criteria that must be met for licensure or registration of care facilities, in addition to regulations concerning background checks, duties and training for employees; caregiver to child ratios; the size, cleanliness, and safety codes of the facility; and educational requirements for the children.
- Types of child care facilities governed in the Indiana Administrative Code are the child care center, child care home, child care ministry, class I child care home, class II child care home, and the school-age child care program. All facilities except the child care ministry must be licensed by the state of Indiana. However, the child care ministry must still be registered. The specific qualification criteria for these facilities can be found in Title 12.17.2 of the Administrative Code.
- The agency responsible for licensing child care facilities is the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration's (FSSA) Bureau of Child Care.
