How do I Replace a GX50 Celeron CPU?
- 1). Turn the Dell GX50 off and remove the power cable from the computer. Place the case on its side. Press the release buttons on each side of the case and pull the cover off.
- 2). Find the heatsink and airflow shroud inside the computer case. It's located near the middle back of the motherboard. Remove the shroud fan's power cable from the motherboard. Pull the shroud up and out of the case.
- 3). Take the RAM out of the slot by the heatsink. Press on the clip located on the sides of the heatsink to disconnect it from the tabs on the CPU socket. Take the clips off and pull the heatsink out of the computer.
- 4). Pull the small metal lever to a 90 degree angle to release the current Celeron CPU. Lift the CPU from the socket and insert the new Celeron CPU. Return the metal lever to its original position. The lever snaps into its original position if you moved it the correct way. You only have one way to insert the CPU. Match the corner mark on the CPU and the socket if you are unsure of the CPU positioning.
- 5). Line the heatsink's clip with the tab on the socket. Press the heatsink down on top of the CPU. Hook the heatsink's clip onto the CPU socket's tab to secure the heatsink in place. Press the heatsink's lever up to secure the heatsink.
- 6). Press the airflow shroud into its original position. Reconnect the fan's power cable to the motherboard pins you removed it from originally. Return the computer case and plug the computer in.
