    • 1). Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner.

    • 2). Locate the HEPA filter compartment. On some vacuums this compartment may be on the back of the vacuum; on others, it may be located on the side or front. It may be labeled "Filter" or "HEPA."

    • 3). Look for a release button or latch on the filter compartment panel, push it and remove the panel.

    • 4). Slide the filter out or pull the filter away from the vacuum depending on the position of the filter.

    • 5). Install a fresh HEPA filter in the compartment, ensuring the new filter is facing the same direction and in the same position as the old one. Some filters have markings on their frame to indicate proper placement.

    • 6). Replace the panel, ensuring that no edges of the filter are caught sticking outside between the panel and the body of the vacuum.

    • 7). Empty the vacuum dust collector or bag before using the vacuum with the new filter for the first time.
